Hand-Roasted, Small-cast Artisan Coffees
We consider roasting coffee as fine art...
To paraphrase an old cliche, 'there are "roasters", and then there are roasters'. For some coffee roasters it is simply a matter of dumping in the beans, pushing start and waiting for the timer to sound.
At Grains of Sense®, we consider roasting coffee as fine art. Like an artist, whether it be a master painter or sculptor, minute attention to detail is paid to every step and aspect of the roasting process - bean selection, time, temperature, fan speed and airflow, each being monitored and adjusted accordingly, each being recorded, each and every roast - until completed; each roast a masterpiece of taste, aroma and visual appeal.
Our philosophy about coffee...
At Grains of Sense® we believe that coffee should be enjoyed the way it was created -- as single origin beans so to experience and enjoy the nuances of each growing region and country. That does not mean we don't experiement and create our own unique blends from time-to-time, or offer a few flavored coffees as well.
Why only Fair Trade Certified,
Rain Forest Alliance Certified or direct-relationship coffees...
Most of our Grains of Sense® coffees are single origin and, strictly, Fair Trade Certified, Rain Forest Alliance Certified or obtained through direct-relationships with growers. Fair Trade coffee is our commitment to respecting our fellow man and honoring the hard work of the farmers and growers of the coffees we feature.
Offering these Fair Trade Certified or Rain Forest Alliance Certified, sustainably grown coffees is our commitment to you, our customer that we only source, roast and sell coffees from growers who have been inspected and audited as part of the Fair Trade and Rain Forest Alliance Certifications to be free from the use of harmful chemicals and pesticides, and at the same time committed to sustainable farming practices. Use of the Fair Trade Certified logo and the Rain Forest Alliance Certified logo indicates that we are registered members in good standing and have full legal authority to use these logos on our packaging.
Our offerings...
Our current offering of single origin coffees are carefully roasted by hand, to order, in small casts to exacting levels of roast. Upon the conclusion of the cooling period our coffees are then packaged to seal in the freshness. To ensure the maximum freshness and flavor of our beans to you -- we have selected an attractive high-barrier, vented, zip-seal foil laminate stand-up pouch. All coffees will be roasted and shipped within 48 to 72 hours (or in accordance with scheduled roasting sessions) of the order being received. We are now offering shipping on all orders (retail purchases only) for $5.99.
Grains of Sense® also features premium, single origin, Fair Trade Certified, sustainably grown MWP (Mountain Water Process®) decaffeinated coffees that are roasted and packaged with the same care, attention and detail. The Mountain Water Process uses a purified water process to remove the caffeine thus maintaining the pure, wholesome, sustainable-origin integrity of the beans.
Special Custom Roasting Service...
Being a micro-roaster, and as an added service for you, Grains of Sense offers you the opportunity to communicate, personally, with our roaster. This gives you the opportunity to discuss questions or specifics about your order with our roaster, or even create your very own custom roast. Custom roasts will be subject to the availability of supply, may require additional time to fulfill, and may also incur additional costs - but in the end you will have what you want, your very own personal roast.
The taste...
The taste...Oh the taste! Regardless of what roast you choose, you can be assured of among the smoothest, best tasting cups of coffee anywhere. It may even be THE smoothest and best tasting cup you will experience. That is our unbiased opinion. However, we will let the quality, color and flavor of our coffees speak for themselves, and your discerning taste buds decide.
